Use the following procedure for testing modem connections:

  1. Connect modem to computer and machine.
  2. Plug modem into 115 VAC. Front panel LEDs (TD and RD) on modem should be green.
  3. Turn on computer and machine. Start CSS DNC Server.
  4. Send Operator Message. LEDs on modem should quickly blink Red.

According to Black Box specs, the short-haul modems are designed to transmit up to 4 miles (6.4 km) over 4-wire RS-232.
