Use the following procedure for testing modem connections:
- Connect modem to computer and machine.
- Plug modem into 115 VAC. Front panel LEDs (TD and RD) on modem should be green.
- Turn on computer and machine. Start CSS DNC Server.
- Send Operator Message. LEDs on modem should quickly blink Red.
According to Black Box specs, the short-haul modems are designed to transmit up to 4 miles (6.4 km) over 4-wire RS-232.
